Avoid Hydroplaning With These Simple Strategies
Even simply seeing other Corvallis, OR drivers hydroplaning can be stressful. Taking steps to avoid these unfortunate and often terrifying events can spare you a tremendous amount of anxiety. At Toyota of Corvallis, we’re sharing two strategies for preventing the sudden loss of traction on wet, slippery roads.
Check Your Tire Treads Regularly
Driving around on worn tires with minimal tread depth greatly increases your risk of hydroplaning. Although many drivers don’t inspect their tires until problems arise, both tread depth and air pressure should be checked at least once each month. Well-maintained and properly inflated tires will fare far better on wet roads than will tires that are ill-cared for.
Drive Slow and Steady
The first rain of the season creates the most challenging driving conditions oils and other automotive fluids mingle with the water. However, no matter when rain falls, you should always be sure to limit your speed. Although hydroplaning can occur at speeds as low as 35 miles per hour, it’s far less likely to occur when drivers aren’t pushing the speed limit.
